Who is it for?
Anyone with a desire to learn drawing skills & techniques that will provide inspiration to take your creativity & imagination on a journey into the worlds of Animated Cartoon, Manga & Anime & Dynamic Caricature.
What will you learn?
These Masterclasses are professionally designed by Illustrator & Art Teacher Frantz Kantor to build core drawing skills that can be easily used to create practical illustration projects. All art materials are supplied.

Weeks 1 – 4: Drawing Classic 1930’s style Animated Cartoons.
Welcome to the world of retro-contemporary Cartoon Characters, from Betty Boop to Cuphead. Hitch up your Mickey Mouse breeches with your rubber-hose arms, & feast your pie-eyes on characters that have a real sense of Boogie!
Week 1: The secret language of cartoons – the language of shapes.
Week 2: Cartoon character creation - constructing a solid character.
Week 3: Cartoon character personality, body language & expressions.
Week 4: Finishing a classic cartoon character in watercolour using colour design theory.
Weeks 5 – 8: Caricature Drawing – a new approach to drawing character.
Learn the dynamic expressive power of exaggeration and simplification, the two super-powers of caricature. Learn all the rules of drawing by breaking them!
Week 5: Introduction to the process of caricature – simplification, exaggeration & looking for shapes.
Week 6: Drawing a human caricature in light & shade on toned paper.
Week 7: Drawing an animal caricature in light & shade on toned paper.
Week 8: Drawing a Monster using caricature in light on black paper.
Weeks 9 – 12: Anime Drawing – a stylized approach to drawing a character.
Explore the world of Japanese stylized characters from the many genres of Anime & Manga, from the impossibly cute to the scary, the sci-fi action to the magical.
Week 9: Anime & Manga style & visual language - introduction to the finished project.
Week 10: Anime character creation, constructing a solid character.
Week 11: Drawing the character in ink & paint on animation cel (acetate) in a classic animation technique.
Week 12: Background painting and framing the completed project.
